Urology
Bladder control problems or incontinence may feel like a natural part of aging, but it may be more than that. It could be a sign of a much bigger issue.
At Santa Rosa Medical Group, the urological care team is well equipped to treat patients with a range of issues that affect the male or female urinary system, as well as those related to the male reproductive organs. The urologist can help those seeking care and treatment for urologic conditions, including:
- Overactive bladder
- Urinary incontinence
- Urodynamics
- Hematuria (blood in the urine)
- Interstitial cystitis
- Urinary tract infection (UTIs)
- Prostate conditions
- Kidney conditions
- Kidney stones
- Bladder stones
- Adrenal, bladder, kidney, prostate, testicular, urethral/penile cancers
- Ureteral (upper tract) tumors
- Men's health conditions, including erectile dysfunction and issues concerning vasectomies
- Women's health conditions, such as pelvic issues and infertility
If urologic surgery is necessary, surgeons offer patients progressive minimally invasive surgical techniques, including robotic surgery for many conditions, such as prostate cancer.
Advanced Surgical Treatment for Enlarged Prostate
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) makes it difficult to urinate and fully empty the bladder. Symptoms include the need to urinate immediately or urgently, urinating more often than normal, urinating frequently at night and a weak or interrupted stream. Without treatment, BPH can lead to repeated infections, permanent bladder or kidney damage, bladder stones and acute inability to urinate.
If surgery is recommended, men with BPH often delay treatment due to concerns about side effects related to sexual function, continence and recovery time. An innovative treatment option available at SRMC uses robot-assisted, heat-free waterjet therapy with real-time ultrasound guidance, which allows the surgeon to precisely remove only the prostate tissue restricting the urethra. Such precision can relieve symptoms while helping to avoid unsettling side effects. As a minimally invasive procedure, no incision is made in the abdomen; the prostate is reached through the urethra. The procedure typically takes about an hour and may involve an overnight hospital stay.
A urologist can determine if waterjet therapy may be right for you.
